A short page, because there is not much to say and pretending otherwise would be the first dishonest thing on the site.
The short version
Hardness is a number somebody has already measured, and finding it is step one on every page here. SoftenWell is operated by NXTA Flow, installs no equipment, sells none, and attributes every figure it prints to wherever that figure came from.
What we doWe route calls
SoftenWell connects homeowners with independent contractors who install and repair water softeners. We do not install anything, we sell no equipment, and we hold no stock. There is no showroom to visit and no van with our name on it.
How we are paidBy the contractor, never by you
The contractors in our network pay us when we route them a call. Homeowners are never charged anything, and the price you are quoted is not affected by us, because we do not set it and do not see it.
Why the site is built this wayPublished figures first
Every hardness claim on this site traces to a named source you can open: the EPA's Safe Drinking Water Act file for which system serves your town, the US Geological Survey for the hardness scale, Penn State Extension for the sizing arithmetic. Where we do not have a figure, we say so rather than estimate one.
CredentialsCheck them yourself
Contractors are required to hold whatever credential their state or municipality demands. We do not vouch for anyone; each state page sets out who issues the license there and where to look it up, so you can confirm before work starts.
If the water is leaving marks, the question is how hard it actually is.That is a measurement, not a guess, and it decides whether equipment is worth buying at all. We connect you with somebody who can test it. You are never charged and we sell nothing. We are a softener site by name; the line is broader.
